The outside is so run down, I thought it was closed. Wontons and noodles in my noodle soup were perfectly cooked. The wontons were tasty and deserving of being in the business namesake! Unfortunately, the soup broth was cripplingly salty... I wonder if the broth had been continuously reducing and had not gone checked for a long time? I added my whole cup of tea to the broth and it made it bearable. Chicken knees were super crispy and delicious. Fried tofu was good as well. The takeout we grabbed for later (scallop fried rice and house special chow mein) were just okay. Prices are reasonable.
Best service compared to every wonton house in town. Closest to the authentic HK style wonton noodles. Their made by order rice rolls are never disappointing, and they don't drown it in their sweet soya sauce, they serve it separately. We always walk away happy with the food, and completely feel that they deserve the tips. Not like other wonton joints that provide horrible service and expect customers to give gratuities (tips) to thank them for horrible service
It is not called McKim, just Wonton Mein Saga on Kingsway. A unpretentious Chinese restaurant who offers late dinner like plain congee with little dishes to go with it. Flavours in the dishes are good, service is friendly & good. We have gone there a couple of times, it is now my go to place for late dinner for plain congee. Definitely going back again without a doubt.
We were planning to go to Congee Noodle King but turns out they closed on Wednesdays. Then we found this place few blocks down. We are pretty happy with our little detour. The congee and beef noodle soup are good. We ordered the sampan congee and beef brisket in clear broth. Let's say, I have been searching for a good sampan congee since that congee place my family used to go to closed down. This sampan congee comes pretty close. The added shredded lettuce and ginger add a nice crunch and freshness. The beef briskets in the noodle dish were very tender. It feels like they melt in your mouth. The broth is very flavourful and doesn't taste like there were MSG added. We also ordered deep fried noodle fish and bbq pork. The deep fried noodle fish is a must! It goes so well with congee and by itself as well. We would skip the bbq pork next time. It wasn't that spectacular for $14. Overall, our bill came out to be $42. This place is cash only and would make a great late night place! They have many late night and combo options but I was only looking for congee so didn't bother with the other stuff. There are some parking spot at the back but there are a lot of street parking as well.
The won ton noodle was amazing, and I will definitely return whenever I am in B.C. 雲吞(面)真是好味道,面好爽,正是我懷念的雲吞。
